Jools announce debut album Violent Delights and share new single ‘Mother Monica’

UK punk collective Jools announce debut album Violent Delights out 6th June via Hassle Records, as well as sharing new single ‘Mother Monica’.

Violent Delights is an anthology of stories that meanders through themes of grief, rage, desire and identity. There are stories of the toxicity of addiction, and growing up around religion; stories of overwhelming obsession, isolating abandonment, and empowering anthems of identity, and stark laments about sexual violence. They are each lived experiences, laid bare, reclaimed with every syllable whether dripping in spite or swagger, anger or anxiety.

Lead vocalist Kate Price explains ‘Mother Monica’, “We’d spoken about the constant, underlying feeling of guilt and need to be ‘good’ that can sometimes come with being brought up Catholic. For us, that eventually manifested in a need to be rebellious”, explains vocalist Kate. “The hook of the chorus comes from a prayer by St Augustine, who was known for being excessive and sinful in his youth, and asked God to make him good, but just not yet. Mother Monica is our version of that prayer.”
