Bau Cat blend 60s psychedelia and post-punk on new double A-Side ‘Ordinary People’ / ‘Conversations with America’

Prestatyn trio Bau Cat return with ‘Ordinary People’ / ‘Conversations with America’, a double A-side taken from their forthcoming four-track EP Price of Life, out November 6 via Libertino. Exploring the challenges of navigating an increasingly divided and unstable world, the two tracks approach their subject matter from different perspectives. ‘Ordinary People’ reflects the struggles of working-class musicians trying to sustain a creative life, while ‘Conversations with America’ tackles political unrest and the importance of solidarity.

‘Ordinary People’ is a glorious slice of 60s-inspired psychedelic rock, brimming with jangly, Beatles-esque guitars and infectious energy. A lightning-fast bassline races beneath the swirling instrumentation, propelled by a frantic rhythm section, while Abby’s vocals perfectly complement the retro aesthetic. Despite its vintage influences, there’s a freshness to the sound that keeps this sprawling, exhilarating track firmly in the present.

‘Conversations with America’ takes a darker turn, pairing another fiercely driving bassline with distorted guitars and tense, unsettling instrumentation. Abby’s vocals become more haunting, lending the track a distinct post-punk edge. Together, the songs showcase two contrasting sides of Bau Cat, balancing nostalgic musical influences with a distinctly contemporary sense of urgency.
