San Francisco indie rock singer/guitarist Megan Slankard creates superhero alter ego on empowering new single ‘Magical Thinking,’ out now.

“When I wrote this song, I was in the middle of a relationship where I felt I was disappearing, fearful and unable to express my feelings,” recalls Megan. “Some days the only way I could write songs was to imagine myself as someone else. In my songs I could transform myself into a powerful, commanding, and confident character that was larger than life. She was like my own personal superhero who helped me get through difficult times.”

The single follows ‘California,’ a searing breakup song that’s a “gentle reminder of why it might not be the best idea to date a songwriter,” explains Megan. Both singles will be included on California & Other Stories due October 28. Co-produced by Alex Wong (Vienna Teng, Delta Rae) it showcases new sides of Megan’s music, balancing delightfully belligerent rock and roll with lush cinematic soundscapes of orchestra instruments and robot harmonies.
