Destroy Boys release introspective new single ‘Shadow (I’m Breaking Down)’

California punks Destroy Boys continue a banner year with the release of their second single of 2023 ‘Shadow (I’m Breaking Down)’, which is out now via Hopeless Records.

The track is an expansive yet intimate composition, which looks to hold a mirror up to all parts of the self in a constructive way. Says vocalist and guitarist Alexia Roditis “‘Shadow…’ is about compassionately confronting the parts of yourself that you don’t like, or do like but might be toxic. It’s an introspective piece, taking notes from various spiritual beliefs and psychological research.” Roditis shifts seamlessly between English and Spanish lyrics across the composition with the track incorporating the harder punk edge that Destroy Boys are known for with a more delicate, melody-drenched, atmospheric approach.

‘Shadow (I’m Breaking Down)’ is in stark contrast to Destroy Boys’ recent sub-90-seconds rip-roaring track ‘Beg For The Torture’, which is a searing tornado of punk rock fuelled female empowerment. These new tracks were produced by Carlos de la Garza (Bad Religion, Paramore, The Linda Lindas).
